unit operation means the operation in which only physical
change occur not chemical.ex.fluid operation,mechanical
operation,heat tranfer operation, mass tranfer
operation.ie.distillation,drying,adsorption etc......

Answer / alok kumar
basically fluid machanics ,heat transfer operation operation
,mass transfer comes in catagory of unit operations.
the basic thing is that during 1 or more unit operations
there is no chemical composition change occur only physical
changes such as temp. etc. change.

PETROLEUM ENGINEERING - QUESTION 25.3 : Liquid octane has a density of 703 kilograms per cubic metre and molar mass of 114.23 grams per mole. Its specific heat capacity is 255.68 J / (mol K). (a) Find the energy in J needed to increase the temperature of 1 cubic metre of octane for 1 Kelvin. (b) At 20 degree Celsius, the solubility of liquid octane in water is 0.007 mg / L as stated in a handbook. For a mixture of 1 L of liquid octane and 1 L of water, prove by calculations that liquid octane is almost insoluble in water.
we have 2 O2/Comb Analyzers Servomex Model 2700 in service for one of the furnaces in our chemical plant. It is giving High Temperature Alarm. Checked Temperature and found it to be 800 Deg C whereas Set Point is 700 Deg c. It is strange why is temperature not at SP. Also response is 23 % with 21 % Inst Air and with N2 reading is not coming down. please clarrify this issuses very urgent

QUANTUM CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING - EXAMPLE 31.8 : (a) Acceptable wavefunction in quantum mechanics in the range of : negative infinity < x < positive infinity, vanishes at least at one boundary. Which of the following is the wavefunction or are the wavefunctions of acceptable theory : P = x, P = | x |, P = sin x, P = exp (-x), P = exp (-| x |)? State the reason. (b) Let linear momentum operator P = -ih d / dz. The wavefunction is S = exp (-ikz) where i x i = -1, k and h are constants. Find the linear momentum of such wavefunction by using the term P x S.

GENETIC ENGINEERING - EXAMPLE 27.4 : According to Hardy-Weinberg Equation, p x p + 2 x p x q + q x q = 1 where p = dominant allele frequency and q = recessive allele frequency. Let p + q = 1. Fraction of population has 2 copies of the p gene = p x p. Fraction of population has 2 copies of the q gene = q x q. Fraction of population has a copy of p gene and a copy of q gene = 2 x p x q. In a small town, the allele frequency is q = 0.2 for a recessive gene, the delta-32 mutation, that gives human protection from HIV infection. (a) Find the allele frequency of a dominant gene, p. (b) What percent of the population has at least a copy of the gene that cause the population either immune to HIV or less susceptible to the disease?
CHEMICAL FLUID MECHANIC - EXAMPLE 3.1 : Water flows through a pipe with circular cross sectional area at the rate of V / t = 80 L / s where V is the volume and t is time. Let Av = 80 L / s where A is cross sectional area and v is velocity of fluid. For point 1, the radius of the pipe is 16 cm. For point 2, the radius of the pipe is 8 cm. Find (a) the velocity at point 1; (b) the velocity at point 2; (c) the pressure at point 2 by using Bernoulli's equation where P + Rgy + 0.5 RV = constant. P is the pressure, R = density of fluid, V = square of fluid's velocity, g = gravitational constant of 9.81 N / kg and y = 2 m = difference of height at 2 points. The pressure of point 1 is 180 kPa.
