We are using airgap for decreasing and increasing Magnetic property and current value. I.e if you increase the airgap Magnetic property will be low hence it will increase the current value and the losses will be more.
Similarly if u decrease the airgap the reverse thing will happen. The airgap depends upon the type of equipment you are connected.
