Why motor is not calculated in kva, whereas transormers are calculated in kva..

Answer / electrical ravi

Normaly Source is rated in KVA where as appliance/Load is
rated in KW.

Transformer converts product of V1 X I1 into V2I2, there is
no lead or lag pf at no Load, so the manufacturer specify
the rating of the transformer in KVA.
In motor, the electrical energy is converted to mechanical
energy and there is losses within the unit and there is
phase difference between voltage and current and thus
forming a builin power factor. So the manufacturer of motor
specifies the rating in KW with powerfactor value on its
name plate.
