1 phase means it carry currents by 0 degree phase shift and 3 phase means it contains 3 phases which is 120 degree apart from each other.
3 Phases carry currents equally in each phases by 120 degree apart.

In india there is a system known as colour codeing. If we r dealing in 1 phase v take red wire as phase & black wire's colour as neutal.Same type of coding is done in 3 phase I.e red,yellow ,blue. They r 120°electrically different during production from alternator but the neutal wire's colour code remin sme as in 1 phase.....

can use sigle phase equipments and 3 phase used for
commercial where we can use 3 phase machines.
