A Pressure Safety Valve (PSV) is designed to prevent overpressure situations, while a Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) is designed to protect equipment from damage due to excessive pressure. The main difference is that PSV is set to open at a lower pressure than PRV for safety reasons.
