What is the voltage violating limit to be considered for
load flow study? What is acceptable deviation limit
according to relevant standards?
Answer / omar aziz
Mostly standards (IEEE , ANSI) recommend 5% however, in
practical situations where a sound judgment can be made you
can strech it upto 10 - 15% at the load bus depending on
your min. voltage allowed by the motors/ other equipment.
Motors can usually start at around 80% rated voltage ,
however other electronic equipment such as UPSs are very
sensitive to voltage variations.
Consider the load before selecting this threshold otherwise
stick to 5%

WE are using a 63A MCCB(SIEMENS MAKE) for one of the feeder in LV substation panel. It is supplying to a lighting & power socket DB.Settings in the MCCB is Ir = 63 * 1 , Isd = 8 times of Ir , tsd = 0.5 sec( I2 t off). Sometimes this MCCB is tripping .But no trip in DB MCB. Can anybody tell me reason ? From where i can know about the MCCB settings?
My question is whether bellow formula is correct to find bus size for 46kA for 0.5 second & what is RT in bellow formula. formula to calculate the size of busbar to withstand the thermal stresses due to currents with duration of 0.2 sec to 5 sec. Sp = RT( I x I x t) / K Where Sp – is the cross sectional area of bus bar in millimeters. I - is the value of AC fault current. t - is the operating time of disconnecting device in seconds. K – is the factor depending on the material of the conductor, insulation and initial and final temperature. Value of ‘k’ for copper is 143.
6 MVA transformer secondary is rated for 725V at no load. The incommer ACB is rated at 690 V, 3200 Amp. Would there be any effect on performance of ACB due to lower voltage rating?
Can a 50-Hz designed transformer be used at 60-Hz system? Is the same remains true, when a 60-Hz designed transformer be used at 50-Hz system? Consider only frequency variation. The voltage remains as rated value in all cases. Justify the answer.
