The formula for calculating the Capacitive kVAr required to
compensate inductive kVAr is kW*sqrt(tan_angle1-tan_angle2).
In your case, you have to check the present power factor
and then the kW.
Suppose, If you have load of 50kW and the power factor is
0.8 and you have a plan to improve the PF to 0.95 then as
per the above formula the Capactive kVAr required to
compensate the inductive kVAr would be 21.
Besides, one should understand and work on the application.
ie, you can go for a 20 kVAr capacitor bank as per the
above if you have 50kW motor working on a pf of 0.8. If
both load and inductive kVAr is varying, then you have to
go for automatic pf control system with suitable banks to
compensate the inductive kVAr.

last week we did the REF relay test by closing single pole (R phase) of CB and apply 380V at the primary of delta transformer. we get 33A at the primary of the R phase star end. but we get 380A at both R an B in delta side. how and why?
