What is meant by class of CT&PT?

What is meant by class of CT&PT?..

Answer / hareesh

CTs have two fuction one is metering & othjer is protection.
for metering CT (0.1, 0.2 ,0.5,1.0 etc class).that means
error of CT has some tolerence limit. if u r using a 0.2
class CT (500/1A).at 500A ur CT error shud exceed more than
0.2%. i.e class represent some allowable limitation of
error in the ct. so CT shud not exceed this error.choosing
the type of class depends upon application. if u want more
accurate measurement u shud go for 0.1 class CT. tariff
calculation based on CT n PT reading.. if u dont have
better accuracy.. ur calculation of tariff also wont be
accurate. protection CT classes are( 5P,10P,PS etc)this
deals with CT saturation characteristics. like metering CT
this is also have some tolerence limit.thats wht we call
class
