You mentioned the current capacity of motor is 390A, If
distance is too closer to the breaker,then you might be go
for copper cable, it will have lesser cross section and
high current carrying capacity. If the distance is more
better to go for the Aluminium cable so that cost of the
cable will reduce from the copper cable.

Cable size selection is dippending on several factors like
current,distance,cable routing, nature of load,duration of
running of equipment etc.Normally 400KW LT motors nobody
prefers to run due to high current handling.HT motor is
preferable.In case of LT, you can go ahead with 400sqmm two
runs of Alumonium cable with stardelta starter.

first your question is wrong 400 KW motor current more than
390 amps. second you not mention type of starter.

you should be going with 400 sq al xlpe cable for long
distance and with star-delta..
