How to test the thyresitor or SCR by multmeter?
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
Answer / a.p
the thyristor will conduct in the forward direction and in
the reverse direction, it will show reverse recovery
voltage, thus a high resistance. Or we may put a diode in
parellel with the thyristor. The current gets diveded when
the thyristor is conducting. Else all the current flows
through the diode alone. In this way the thyristor could be
checkd.

Answer / engineering.force
initially increase the voltage across the anode-cathode
terminals of the thyristor. and note the value of current.
the current will be zero when scr is not fired. after a
certain value of voltage it will start conducting, the
current through the scr will start to increase and, the
voltage across the scr will drop near to zero.

Peak Electronics make a handy Thyristor and Triac tester
it has 3 leads with croc clips you dont even have to connect it a certain way.. it will analyse and display which colour lead is connected to what terminal eg Red lead = Cathode, Blue lead = anode, Green lead = gate and it will also tell you if the Thyristor/Triac is working correctly.
Usually when triacs/thyristors fail, they fail short circuit
