define briefly the function of an ac electric generator
(alternator)?

define briefly the function of an ac electric generator (alternator)?..

Answer / kumar, avr panel service engine

generator is converting mechanical energy to electrical
energy .by using prime mover its gives mechanical energy
to Genset (generator). In genset it consist of
stator,rotor,RR & excitor.intially rotor rotating by
mechanical energy its produce some minimum voltage called
resuidual voltage by using AVR (automatic voltage
regulator ) we can develop or buildup the resuidual
volage .its produce DC voltage its called excitation
voltage .that voltage fed to excitor. In excitor that
voltage is fed to rotor through RR (rotating
rectifier ).this process going continusly & that AVR
maintain the voltage as constant .depend upon the Genset
power the excitation voltage will vary.
