Yes there are huge difference b/w them.
Baterry- A device who Coliect the energy charges as +ve
and -ve ions are behave &named as battery.and also it
recieve fixed DC as input and varriable DC as o/p.
Inverter-
A device which convert varriable DC into fixed AC is known
as invertor. It does so by the help of solid state devices.

battery is a chopper .chopper is converted to fixed dc to
variable dc.
inverter is converted to fixed dc to variable ac.
