Governor is a device used to maintain the constant speed of
vehicle its regulate the fuel supply of engine when engine
is working under the heavy load so its required more fuel
that time governor helps to increase the fuel supply and
when engine is working under light load so its reduce the
fuel supply.

yes governors are used in automobiles..especially in diesel
engines..petrol engines can also have governors to limit its
speed..or if used for constant speed applications..
what it basically does is to keep the engine speed constant
or at a desired level when the load varies.. that is
governor controls the throttle taking engine speed as input...
