why ac generator ratings in kva only why not kw ????????????? ?..

Answer / mahavir jagdev

Because you don't know what power factor the generator will be loaded with. The KVA denotes the Voltage and the Current the generator can take at resistive load.

why ac generator ratings in kva only why not kw ????????????? ?..

Answer / raul

the designs and ratings of electric machines such as
alternators, transformers etc are always decided by the
amount of losses taking place in d machines i.e. core loss
and copper loss. since the core loss depends upon the
applied voltage and copper loss depends upon d load
current, therefore the product of these dependent variables
i.e. voltage and current i.e. KVA is the acutal ratings.

why ac generator ratings in kva only why not kw ????????????? ?..

Answer / at

Not only generator but UPS / Transformer or any other
device which is giving Electrical power as output is rated
in kVA. The reason is that it is power that will be given
by the machine apperently. however when the load is
connected say for example a motor the actual power which is
converted to work is diffenrent known as active power and
involves power factor. There fore all machines with
mechnical output are rated in kw.

why ac generator ratings in kva only why not kw ????????????? ?..

Answer / s a s i

rating means max capability of sym.it will obtain from
nether voltage nor curent with resistance known facor.but
kw not provides voltage r current.it gives only wattage
only.so it will rated in kva..

why ac generator ratings in kva only why not kw ????????????? ?..

Answer / amit kumar

due to two losses iron loss and copper loss.iron losss
measured in volt where as copper loss is measured in
current.

why ac generator ratings in kva only why not kw ????????????? ?..

Answer / sunil

ac generator or any ac machine have two powers real and
reactive power. va or kva is the apparent power of the
machine which is near to the real power and best describes
the capacity.

why ac generator ratings in kva only why not kw ????????????? ?..

Answer / murari.soma sekhar

THE RATING OF ANY MACHINE IS DEPEND ON LOSSES DISUPATION OF
THAT MACHINE.SO IN CASE INCASE OF ELECTRICAL MACHINE THE
LOSEES ARE COPPER LOSES @IRON LOSSES BOTH RESULT IN
DISUPATION OF HEAT .HENCE THE CU LOSS DEPEND ON CURRENT
@IRON LOSS DEPEND ON VOLTAGE.SO THAT PRODUCT GIVES RATING
OF MACHINE.
