The Pressure vessels (cylinder or tank) are used to store
fluids under pressure. If the pressure vessel are design in
the form of column to separate the gas at upper portion and
liquid is collected at bottom so called column generally a
pressure vessel (column)

A vessel is used for accumulating/storing a
utilities/process fluids at pressure and then discharging
it latter for the next process/specified next stage.Vessels
can be spherical in shape also. For e.g. the gas sent to
flare line are first stored in K.O(Knock out)drums (Vessel)
and then sent to the flare tower for burning. Vessels are
usually horizontally mounted.
Columns are used for distributing and seperation
purpose.Usually for seperating two items from a intake or
removing undesired items/impurities from an intake and then
discharging to the next stage. For e.g. the demister used in
the column distributes the gas received in it.Columns are
always mounted vertically.
