What is the use of conservater, bucchos relay, breather in a transformer?..

Answer / jayprakash

Buchholz Relay : Used as a protective device for
transformer against internal faults. If there is a fault
inside the transformer, due to heat gases will be generated
and trapped in Buccholz relay and will protect the
transformer.

Conservator : The transformer main oil tank is always
filled completely. During summer and heavy load conditions
the oil expands and the conservator is provided for the
expansion and contraction of oil

Breather : During contraction of oil, the outisde air gets
into transformer thru breather. The breather has silica gel
which absorbs the moisture. Also the breather has a oil cap
to stop entering the particles such as dust enter the
transformer

What is the use of conservater, bucchos relay, breather in a transformer?..

Answer / rvg

Buchols relay is to protect the winding from over heat, and
the circuit will be tripped off as soon as the coil attains
a pre determined temp.
Conservator is to store additional cooling oil, and same
oil can be make use later also.
Breather is to absorbe moisture contents from air which
sucks in while the oil get expanded.

What is the use of conservater, bucchos relay, breather in a transformer?..

Answer / pria

buchholz relay is a gas actuated relay. due to fault, the
temperature of the transformer oil increases. as a result,
the oil vapourises and there is bubble formation. these
bubbles get acumulated on the rubber ball present inside
ths relay. as the viscosity of air bubbles is much lower
than that of oil, the ball moves lower and hence closes the
ckt for an alarm or trip ckt.

conservater: when the temp of oil increases, it expands and
hence increases the level of oil in the tank. the excess
oil goes to conservater.

breather: air enters the tank thro breather. but the should
not contain moisture as it reduces the dielectric strength
of the transformer oil. silica gel is used to absorb the
moisture. silica gel devoid of moisture is pink or white in
colour while wet silica is blue.

What is the use of conservater, bucchos relay, breather in a transformer?..

Answer / sayed asef

Bucholz relay is the protective deivce which protect the
transfomer from overload,overheat,short ckt protection.
when ever any over load or short ckt happen ,the first
thing increase which is temp of transfomr and this relay is
connected with temp sensor controller and these realy has 2
NO contact first alarm contact and another is tripping
contact.

breather as name indicate ,when the temp of oil get
increasing it expand and Dry air of conservator tank goes
out, after cooling the oil ,again conservator tank need Dry
air ,which is supplied by breather and silica gel takes out
the moisture from this air.

conservator tank is stored the cools oil.
