The only way DC can be used is if the current is turned on
and off by some kind of switching device. This is how
automobile ignitions work. This on and off of the DC
current creates the difference in "flux" or charge of
current in the primary winding which will be induced into
the secondary winding at the time of change.

*When an alternating voltage is given to the primary winding, current flows in it.
*Flow of current causes changing magnetic field in the core.
*Most of which is linked with the secondary winding where an emf is produced due to the change in magnetic field.
*DC voltage is constant in magnitude and if given to the primary winding, there wont be any change in magnetic field. Instead magnetic field stays the same.
*EMF is induced in the secondary only if the magnetic field is changing.
*Thus if DC voltage given to primary, there will be no emf induced in secondary.

As ac supply has change in flux it obeys mutual induction
principle. but if you use dc supply there wont be any
change in flux and it wont obey mutual induction principle
and when dc power is supplied to transformer the primary
winding gets damaged as the power in primary is increased
and it is not induced in secondary. so dc power used in
transformer damages it.

Answer / subhrajyoti de
Transformer work on the principle of mutual induction.
If DC voltage is supplied then there will be no change in flux as a result no EMF will be induced in the secondary winding and the will be no output.
On the other hand, the primary windings will get heated up and may blow up after sometime.

Answer given by Victorvgp (#7)is wrong....there is no DC
transformers are there in market. But Choppers are there. Its
function is to convert fixed DC to variable DC.

Answer / nagaswathi
generally transformer is a static device, by passing current
mangetic flux is produced which induces emf in secondary
with respect to change in flux which varies with time as
d.c. is not a time varient emf is not produced thus the
basic principle of transformer fails
2.as a result of this the windings of transformer burns out.

THE RESISTENCE IS VERY LESS IN TRANSFORMER INSTEAD WE GIVE SUPPLY DC THEN AC THE FOLLOWING HAPPENS DONE
BECAUSE OF HIGH I THE RESISTENCE SHOULD BE DAMAGED AND ALSO THE COILS SO THE PERFORMENCE OF THE TRANSFORMER WILL AFFECT THEN THE TRANSFORMER SHOULD BE AFFECTED

my question is that, actually inductor to block ac & allow
dc.. but we are given to primary of tranformer is a.c supply
and get a.c in secondary due mutual induction???? how is it
possible...
which one is correct???
give me rply anyone...

WHY SPEAKER OUTPUT IN WATTS??
why Lightning arrestor are made by 2 seperate stack of inslutor but why cvt are in single stack of insulator.
what is the difference in inductance and resistance.both oppose the flow of current but how.resistance having + ve power in both cycle while inductance having both power.
