In colomn reinforcement when dia of bar is going to change,
than what should be the lap length of bars weather it should
be of heigher dia bar lap length or it should the accordance
with new dia bar. the grade of concrete is same.

when we are going to change from higher dia to lower dia,
the lap lenghth of lower dia is consider, but when from
lower dia to higher dia lap legth should be consider higher
dia.

Normally the lap length formula is mentioned by designer
and it varies from 40d-60d.
Normally in "columns" we have to calculate the lap splice
length corresponding to smaller of the two bars that are
splicing, whereas in piles (that are either skin friction
or combination of skin friction and end bearing) this will
be reversed and we will have to use the bigger dia bar to
calculate the lap splice lenght.
The logic is very simple if you understand the basic
concept of lap splice lenght. You have to consider whether
its the smaller dia bar transferring stresses to bigger dia
or vice versa. lap splice length is always corresponding to
the dia of the bar which is transferring the stresses.

ok as some are saying that it could be 50D or 47D.....but it is purely depends upon the structural design condition

here in this case the lap length will be 50 times the dia
of the larger bar in the reinforcement...

Lap lenth varies for grade of concrete... High grades require smaller lap length... Generally in columns as u go up... Diameter of bar reduces... Load is transferred from above to below... So lap length is as per smaller bar which is transferring load... For m30 grade we r taking it as 40 d only... And obviously it will be same grade at lap because laps comes in area between the floors... Grade cannot vary at lap splice

The lap length also depends on the grade of steel used, if ur using fe500 then its 57d...For fe415 its 50d

How much concrete can be made using one bag of cement?
As per thumb rule cement required per 1 cum of M20 concrete is 411Kg/cum(1.57/5.5=0.285cum of cement i.e 0.285*1440=411Kg).But as per PWD rate analysis cement required is 347Kg/cum.the difference is 64Kg.This kind of difference is coming every grade of concrete. Can you give perfect suggestion regarding this.
