gypsum has more strength and quality compare to POP, both are used in wall panelling , punning, false ceilings, other interior decorative work.

gypsum boards are used for false ceiling purposes bcoz of their inertness towards water in case of leakage, while pop is used over plaster to cover the irregularities in plaster....it also smoothens the plastered surface...

Gypsum and POP are same with respect to material composition.If you are heating gypsum at around 150 temp it will dehydrate and covert to POP.
