What is the difference between XLPE & FRLS cables? Is FRLS cables is a type of XLPE cable or bo..

Answer / ramesh chandra dhing

XLPE-crosslinked polyethylene.
FRLS-fire retardent low smoke.
FRLS: is a property and its add on feature which is
introduced during manufacturing of cable on demand by which
we can use these cables in fire prone areas and in case of
fire these cables dose not catch fire upto prescribed temp.
level however XLPE is a type of insulation of cable which
improves current carrying capecity of conductor by 5~10%.

What is the difference between XLPE & FRLS cables? Is FRLS cables is a type of XLPE cable or bo..

Answer / rahul sharma

XLPE is an INSULATING Material while FRLS is a Property
which we seeks in Outer Sheath Part of the Cable. Hence, we
can not compare the Both.

If we are talking about Normal XLPE Cable v/s FRLS XLPE
Cable, then please NOTE that the FRLS XLPE Cables are used
in the Fire Prone Area like Hospitals, Electrical Shops,
Fire Crackeer's Shop.

FRLS Properties:
1. Oxygen index: 29 min, when tested as per ASTM D 2863.
2. Temp. Index: 250°C min,when tested as per ASTM D 2863.
3. Smoke density rating:60% Max,when tested as per ASTM D
2843.
4. Acid Gas generation: Maximum 20% by weight, when tested
as per IEC 60754-1.
5. Flame retardant test as per IEC 60332-3 Cat C will pass.

Above are the properties for FRLS Cables.

Answer / shiva reddy

XLPE means Cross Linked poly Ethylene these cables we are
using in Transmission the AC Supply like 440V

FRLS : Flame Retardent Low Smoke These cables we are using
in Fire panel wiring and smoke detectors wiring and FM 200
wiring and for access contol wiring also
In these cables we transmit DC Supply of 12v to 24V and
size of 0.75 to 1.5Sqmm with steel armoured
