Answer / venkatesan.j
The six terminals in the motors are U1,U2,V1,V2,W1,W2. The
terminals U2,V2,W2 are shorted in case of star connection
or U2V1,W2U1,W1V2 in case of delta connection.
The six terminals are available in starter in case of STAR
DELTA starter.

Depends upon your starting method. If your Squreel Cage
Inductoin motor statring Method is Star Delta Starting you
have to use Six Cores. If your Squreel Cage Inductoin motor
statring Method method is DOL (Direct Online) starting you
have to use three Cores and short the U2V1,W2U1,W1V2
terminals. If you are using Slip ring induction motors you
have to use external resistance for rotor windings for
starting purpose. in Slip ring motor terminals are K L M
and U V W , K L M is a rotor connection. U V W is a stator
connection.

terminals for excitation is it correct .... if not plss say
why some times two terminals are shorted

If the motor is a common three phase motor (squirell cage)
then the rotor does not have any connections.
There are three coils now called U V W which are for the
three phases of a 415v supply. How these are strapped
together or brought out to other starter conections is
another story.
You can conect the three coils in delta which gives a
triangle where each end of one coil connects to the start
of the next. At each of these connection points one phase
is connected.
You can conect these coils in Star where the start end of
all coils are connected together, and the other end of each
coil connects to one of the three phases.

You have a 3Phase motor.It has 6 terminal.3 above & 3 below.
Now you can mark A-1(LEFT HAND SIDE)to the upper terminal,
A-2 to the Lower terminal Like wise B-1,B-2,C-1,C-2.
Now if u want to make DELTA connection then with the help of a wire connect A1->A2,B-1->B-2,C1->C2.In star connection with wire short circuit A1->B1->C1.
