Answer / bn
solid is a single state of matter; a state of almost
constant shape and constant volume.
Both shape and volume can be changed if suffient
pressure/stress is applied.
fluid is a group of states; liquid, gas, vapour and plasma;
fluid - - things that flow easily

Only solids have shape. Liquid takes the shape of the
container which the liquid occupies,. But always the upper
surface of the liquid will be always horizontal

The bonding between atom in solid are having more strength
and distance between atoms also less.
But in the liquid this atom distance is more and strength
also less. That is why the energy required to evaporate
any solid is greater than liquid.
ex: iron, ghee etc

When force is applied on solid it get deformed and returned
to its original position under its elastic limit. While in a
fluid when force is applied it get deformed and never return
to its original position.

In fluids, there are loosely spaced molecules,
intermolecular forces are less and when applied to shear
stress it deforms continuously.
On the other hand, solids are having densly spaced
molecules, intermolecular forces are high as compared to
solid and it deforms only after a certain limit which we can
say elastic limit.

Solids have a definite shape but it can't flow.A solid
resist tensile strength and compressive forces.Examples for
Solids are stone, brick, ice cube etc.
Whereas,
Fluids can flow but it doesn't have its own shape. It resist
no tensile strength but it resist compressive
forces.Examples for Fluids are oil, water, mercury, gas etc.

Strain is a function of applied force in solid. In liquid strain is directly proportional to the strain

Answer / abhinav jain
in solid, the lnter molecular forces are higher so they are
rigid & have definite shape but in fluids these forces are
weak as in gas the particles move in any direction so it
does not have fixed volume.
