Why do we use DSS database for OLAP tools?

olap tools or reporting tools can be connected to only ONE
database.If we need a report of data from more than one
database like oracle,SQL Server and DB@ then all the data
is put into a datawarehouse database and then the olap tool
can be connected to this datawarehouse database and the
necesarry reports can be generated.
As far as i know this could be a good answer.
