importance of air gap in transformer
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
We know that,The air gap controls the amount of magnetic
field produced for a given current. In the equation
∫H·dL = n i , H is quite small in the iron because of its
high permeability. Nearly all of the integral accumulates in
the air gap even though the gap is very small compared to
the part of the closed path length in the iron. It reduces
the tendency of the iron to saturate to avoid harmonics in
the current.

Actually the airgap in transformer is for transfer the
primary power to the secondary. Means the primary winding
input voltage level will be step up/down(Depends on type of
trf.) to the secondary winding.
This is exactly same with wats happening in a 3 phase ind.
motor between stator & Rotor.
Thats why we are calling ind. motor as "Rotating Trf".
Thanks ....

hi
air gap depend upon the applied voltage / range of voltage
in that gap.if it is not sufficient gap then breakdown of
the voltage will occur.

What is the difference in calculating size of AC cables compared to calculating size of DC Cables? Usually DC Cables are larger than AC Cables although they have the same ampacity. Why is it?
The metal-enclosed switchgear and controlgear is subdivided into three types: 1. metal-clad switchgear and controlgear; 2. compartmented switchgear and controlgear 3. cubicle switchgear and controlgear. What is the main differnence between them. State some example.
