Normally when you create a prompt for a query item, you drag
and drop the appropriate type of prompt onto your prompt
page. In case that you are not sure of the best prompt type
to choose, use a Generated prompt and ReportNet will
automatically select an appropriate type for you, based on
the nature of the query item.

it is automated generate prompt,depends upon the value u
selected in report design.
for eg:
if u selected the number the generated prompt takes the
text prompt.
if u selected the text the generated prompt takes the value
prompt.
like wise for date also.

Selects a prompt control based on the data type of the data
item.
This control acts like a placeholder. When users run the
report, the control is replaced by the appropriate prompt
control. For example, if users are prompted for date
values, the control is replaced by a date & time prompt.

I have Date,product,Quantity_Sold columns and I want Product, MTD(month Till date),YTD(Year Till Date) as output. Can anyone help me with the logic in getting MTD i.e quantity sold from 1st of this month to till date (i.e. 01- 11-2013 to 26-11-2013) and YTD i.e QTD sold from 1st date of the year to till date(i.e. 01-01-2013 to 26-11-2013). hi, while opening the cognos8 in ie,the home page is coming,while clicking the report studio the blank page will come after it will showing the home page.But by clicking the cognos connection,Query studio in the same page it's open successfully. only for the report,analysis,event studio is not working properly.i didnot understanding the problem.Iam using the cognos8.1 and sql server 2005.and also checking the cognos connection by clicking the run and its success.
