Can you tell me more about pu systems (per unit systems
)calculation in large power systems?
how to get the base for voltage and power in generator,
transformator and transmission lines?
Answer / Pal Singh
Per Unit (PU) Systems are used in electrical engineering to simplify calculations in large power systems. The base values for voltage, current, and power are defined differently for each component: For generators, the base value is usually set to the rated value of the generator's output; for transformers, it is based on the ratio between the primary and secondary voltages; and for transmission lines, it can be set according to the line's maximum capacity. To convert actual values into PU, divide by the base value.
