Answer / dkmathur
This is the power which is utilized to produce flux /
magnatic field in a electrical equipment which is very
basic for any electrical equipment. During this process we
lose some power also. This total component of power is
called reactive power. By reducing losses we can reduce
this reactive power requirement and power factor will be
improved.

reactive power is the power absorbed by the reactive element
If ac power is required to be transferred there must be
reactance,there must be reactive power.
power transferred p= (EV\X)sin(delta)
so for power transfer we have to see that reactive power
must be present and for transferring more active power we
have to see that reactive power must be minimum.

Reactive power eats up your electricity without actually
doing any work. Its contributed by lagging and leading loads
like motors and capacitors.

Answer / suburavichandran
Reactive power is a power which is used to keep the equipment or coil a magnetized one which is termed to be a loss in most of the case.
Its actually not a loss its a power to be spent on holding the magnetic flux throughout the operation of that equipment.hence reactive power should be a minimum one so that the real power which is doing the work can be increased

hey guys i think reactive power is the power consumed by the
power system during starting . as no power s developed
during starting that s termed as useless power. but its not
reactive power plays a predominant role in power system
