WHAT IS THE DIFFERNECE BETWEEN THE SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICES
AND POWER SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICES?????????

Answer / arun
Normally semiconductor devices are meant for handling small
powers of electricity. Power semiconductor devices derived
or made from semiconductors are for handling larger powers.
Semiconductor devices includes resistors, capacitors, small
power handling transistors etc. Resistance value is NOT
dependant on the amount of power to be handled, but its
size is. Power semicondtr devices includes SCR, TRIAC etc
which are derived from semiconductors but are for handling
larger powers..

PAWER semiconductor devices have higher power dissipation
capacity. There is also difference between manufacturing
processes used for simple semiconductor devices and power
devices. some examples of power devices are TRIAC, SCR,
DIAC, IGBT etc.Mostly simple devices are used in the
communication circuit design and power devices in design of
more rugged electrical systems.

SEMI CONDUCTOR DEVICES ARE HAVING DIFFERENT LEVEL OF DOPING
CONCENTRATIONS SUCH AS TRANSISTORS WHERE DOPING IS DONE IN
DIFFERENT PROPORTIONS FOR EMITTER,BASE & COLLECTOR
AND THEY HANDLE ALL FRFEQUENCY SIGNALS OF AF,RF,LF ETC
WHEREAS THE POWER SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICES WORK ON 50 HZ POWER
LINE FREQUENCY AND HAVE THE UNIFORM DOPING PROPORTIONS.

semiconductor devices like diodes, transistors are specially
designed for operating at very low voltage but power
semiconductor devices like SCR,TRIAC are designedfor
applications in power electronics which deals with high voltage

quesion is not semiconductor to power semiconductor
it is voltage devices and power devices both uses
semiconductor technology the differences come because
voltage devices uses power rating and power amplifiers
devices power ratings are different and heat dissipating
values different so heat sinking for power amplifier devices
has to be more that voltage amplifier devices ... it s
simple to know

Answer / sandip vijay
Both are semiconductor device, having "DIFFERENT LEVEL OF
DOPING CONCENTRATIONS". For Small Signal application like
electronics equipments, we generally use normal
semiconductor device(like Communication engg. equipments).
But for the power industries, where we put heavy machines/
equipments; we use Power semiconductor device( like TRIAC,
SCR, DIAC, IGBT etc.)

The main difference is that, semiconductor devices are made
for operating on small power (0 to 5 volts) of electricity.
Power semiconductors are made to operate on large power of
electricity(above than 5 volts) as power semiconductors is
made by using several semiconductor devices.

power semi conductor devices are semi cunductors mainly
used as swiches or rectifires in power electronic
circuits, they are also called power devices or when in
integrated circuits, called power Ic`s.Most of them should
not be used in linear operation. It is used in commutation
mode.Power semi conducters are specially designed semi
conductors. And semi conductors devices are used only for
linear operation.

Answer / krishna
In SEMICONDUCTOR devices we are mainly concerned with
signal power level and thier linear range while in power
semiconductor we are concerned with total power level .
powr handling capacity of Pow semicod. is much greater than
that of semicondutor devices.

Answer / daddy_tashani
the main diffrence between the semi conductor devices and
power semiconductors devices is the power and in power
semiconductor devices there is power and in semiconductor
devices there is no power at that instant.
