Cognos 8 is having multi tier architechture
there are three tier
1) Web Server Tier
2) Apllication Tier
3) Data Tier

when we run the report request go to the web server like
apache tomcat, web logic, web sphere from that request will be
sent to cognos server from that request will pass to
database...
finally we will get the data from database means
repository...
