USING KG INSTEAD OF NEWTON BCOZ WE KNOW THAT UNIT IS KG

Guys first of all you must be clear in using the
acceleration due to gravity constant.
the constant g=9.81m/s2 is wrong, since in practical the g
value will not be same at all. it varies in relation with
the distance
so the weight measurement may not be accurate and can not
be a standard one, hence people would have thought of
expressing quantity in mass (which never change)
but as a some how they adopted this uniot alone for weight
we can conclude that its a wrong practice which followed
for decades

raghu raman's answer must be correct.. and I m sorry Ramesh
(IIT delhi) u r wrong.. I dont understand wat dey taught u
in IIT.. Even in MKS system wieght's unit is kg-f and not
kg.. people might hav lost 'f' in 'kg-f' in due course of
time..

yes kumar m is right the acceleration due to gravity is
dependent upon the height or altitudes.
we can not say what the gravity is going on , by having
some height from earth surface unless we have to some
formulation or by using any scientific mean.
so irrespective of that we have to say our mass not the
weight is ........

we always measure our weight on a balance system, therefore
when we are measuring our weight a gravity of 9.8N is
applied on each side and hence is canceled.so only our mass
is measured and is denoted by kg.

i think that we use value of g only for free falling bodies and when we measure mass on surface of earth where g is zero so we can call mass as weight

In general we speak weight but actually we measure mass whose SI unit is "KG" because acceleration due to gravity "g" is not constant everywhere. So for easy we measure weight in "KG" in stead of "NEWTON".

Answer / raghu raman
1 kg = 1kgf = 9.81N
50 kg = 50kgf = 50*9.81N
i think in SI units we should express weight as
50 kilogramforce. but as it is a long word to say people
left the word "force" and expressing as 50 kilo.

Answer / ramesh kadam
hi friend in MKS unit system we express force in Kg. we are
expressing weight in Kg means we are using MKS method. That
is it. if we want to expess it in SI units we need to
multyply by 9.81( gravitational const) Its not always
convinient to multiply by this factor. So we use MKS method
to express weight.
