Tell me why 440 volts instead of 660 volts in 3 phases of supply system?
Answer / Manraj Singh Gaur
The choice of voltage levels for a three-phase power system is based on practical, safety, and efficiency considerations. The most common voltages used are 400 V and 230 V for single-phase and 440 V (Yn) or 415 V (Delta) for three-phase systems.
440V is chosen instead of 660V because it allows for lower current flow, resulting in reduced copper wire usage and cost. It also improves the efficiency of transformers and reduces power losses during transmission.
