A packed-tower wet scrubber is a common type of liquid scrubber used for treating gases containing acids. This scrubber consists of packing material, such as raschig rings or berl saddles, inside a tall vertical tower filled with water. Acidic gas enters the bottom of the tower and comes into contact with the packing, causing the acid to react with the water, forming an alkaline solution that neutralizes the acid. The scrubbed gas then leaves the top of the tower, while the treated solution can be collected for further treatment or disposal.
