How to decide no. of Step and Kvar for APFC Panel 40 kvar
MD: 33.12 KVA
Avg pf : 0.8540
Answer / Pradeep Kumar Bhati
Determining the number of steps (N) and Kvar rating for an Active Power Filter (APFC) panel can be done using the following general steps:
1. Calculate the reactive power needed by the load (Q_load = sqrt(3) * V_L * I_L * sin(phi_l)) where V_L is the line-to-line voltage, I_L is the current, and phi_l is the power factor angle.
2. Determine the maximum active power (P_max) that the APFC panel can handle (P_max = S_APFC / Power Factor). In this case, S_APFC = 40 kvar and Power Factor = 0.8540
3. Calculate the Kvar rating of each step using Kvar/step = Q_load / N.
4. Determine the number of steps (N) required to meet the reactive power demand without exceeding the maximum active power limit (P_max).

how to Select Lighting arrester? What r the parameters to be considered for the selection of Lighting arrester ?
we all know that in transformer, voltage and current are inversely related i.e. Vp/Vs= Is/Ip....so in standard CT..we have a ratio of 200/5...that means our voltage should increase by ratio of 40..althoug that is not the case...because that requires high insulation level.and pratically not feasible......can anybody clarify my ques.......thanx
