To convert ac into dc,then store it in the batteries.when a fault occurs relays are act on only in dc,and for lightining purpose in the substation.BATTERIES are heart of the substation.

all the controls (VCB's & protections relay) will be on DC

When the AC supply is off then for identification of the VCB's & control will very easy it means heart of the Control

DC supply only for breaker control because ,if plant came to blockout we cant resume even EB suppy without breaker close.

In all industries sub station contain DC pannel to run the total plant with DC for the constant power supply and avoid the fluctuvation.
