What direction of rotation in crank? why not it rotate opposite direction?

What direction of rotation in crank? why not it rotate opposite direction?..

Answer / brian ski

The starter makes the engine start in one direction. With a 4 stroke engine, it would not run properly in the opposite direction. It would be pulling air from the exhaust side into the combustion chamber. The ignition fires slightly before the piston gets to the top. If it were to rotate backwards the spark would be late. It would be able to run backwards with a newly designed camshaft, but that would be quite expensive.
