actually the battery charger should deliver 10-20% more than the battery voltage rating. if its exceeds there will be the chances of explosion.
no need to worry about the polarity but the voltage rating matters.

when u connect an LED with two 1.5 cells they will glow and if u add another two they will glow more.similarly when u will connect your batteries with two sources it will get charged quickly .
