i am very much confused about direction of thrust in steam
turbine...we have steam turbine of 13 stages,10 stages of
impulse and 3 of reaction type....in study manual direction
of thrust is towards inlet but on thrust bearing its loading
side is towards condenser(exhaust side) wile also dummy ring
is present in design which also restrict rotor to move in
exhaust side direction not inlet ....

brother thrust of all turbine is acting towards of its steam flow and in compressor this condition is reverse because in the end stage of compressor we obtained maximum pressure due to its pressure its thrust acting reverse of the gas flow and this condition reverse in turbine,if you facing problem that in your turbine thrust loading side is change then its another
cause may be dummy ring(balance piston)teeths damage

HI freind u mentioned that 3 stages were reaction type generally reaction type expansion is done for high pressure side of turbine (major axial thrust acting on this side) and impulse type expansion is done at Low pressure side and also thrust direction depends on the side at which the steam is entering and leaving.if u have any images of ur problem statement that ll give a clear picture Thanks

The graphite in grey irons exists in the form of flakes which act as stress-raisers under tensile loading and consequently grey irons have relatively low tensile strength and ductility. Still grey iron is extensively used in engineering. Why ?
