why we use 110vac in overhead crains? why not 220v, 24v..

Answer / manuel philip chennai

Control voltages only control the entire operation of the
crane or machine.operating voltage will be hire. if we use
low control voltage it is safe for the person who is
operating the equipment. For control pendent push buttons
only control voltage is supplied,if there is earth fault the
pendent operator will not get heavy shock. there are other
control voltage like 24,48 volts also used in machine tools
and other equipments. it is for only the safety condition of
the operator low voltage is used.

why we use 110vac in overhead crains? why not 220v, 24v..

Answer / ravi

for same body resistance the high voltage causes high
currents to flow through the body. for ex body resistance is
20kohm(generally).220v gives 11ma.for 110v it is 505ma,
below the danger value. if it incase not not grounded
properly it may helpful to limit the shocking current

At 765Kv, I have seen the use of PT at line side for metering and CVT for protection, although as far as my knowledge is concern, PT at this voltage level will have huge loss and more cost as compared to CVT as CVT can also perform same function of Protection and Metering? So my question is why use PT and not CVT for metering and protection in order to reduce the cost.
