A surge tank is a storage reservior is
fitted at some suitable place between
the reservior and the turbine so that
when the valve is suddenly closed,
water fills up in this storage
reservior and maintains the pressure
in the pipe line..

The surge tank is to protect high
internal pressure, water hammering
effects etc.

If we put a ball(made by metal) of dia 10mm on table of size 200 mm*200 mm . weight of ball is 10 kg(98.1N) it should point conact with table than what is the stress acting on table and why?
