In normal generator, DC supply to the rotating field given
with help of collector (slip) rings and brushes. In brushless
type the rotating armature of AC excitation gen is coupled
to rotor of the main gen ,and DC is supplied to field of the
main gen by converting AC output with rectifiers fixed on
rotating shaft. The field voltage to the main gen is varied
by varying the field excitation of the exciter.
