what is the purpose of wear rings in centrifugal pumps ?..

Answer / soman nair

The wear rings have three purposes to serve, 1. To decrease
the discharge fluid leak to the suction area and maintain
the pumps efficiency. 2. It acts as a bearing in a
multistage centrifugal pumping system. 3. It is economical
to replace the wear rings rather than replacing the
expensive impellers in case of any mechanical damage such
as, wear and tear due to abrassion or any other reasons.

what is the purpose of wear rings in centrifugal pumps ?..

Answer / bibhudatta behera

Wear rings can be defined as a device used to seal the
pressure leakage of the liquid between the inlet of the
impeller and the pump casing. Wear rings are typically
found on pumps with closed impellers. A similar device that
serves the same function called a wear plate can be found
on some pumps with a semi-open impeller.
The typical reason for using a wear ring is to decrease the
amount of leakage loss around the impeller. Due to more
work available to push the pumped liquid out the discharge
there is a slight improvement in pump efficiency.

what is the purpose of wear rings in centrifugal pumps ?..

Answer / mahesh kumar pachauri

Wear ring is act as a boundary in a centrifugal pumps
between low pressure (Vacuum) area and high pressure area.
Its also supports impeller's load after bearing failure or
damage and save other parts of pumps

what is the purpose of wear rings in centrifugal pumps ?..

Answer / jerry

wearing ring is found to the impeller and the pump casing to allow the pumps running with a small clearance between the impeller and the pump casing to minimize the internal leakage of fluid. and to avoid the actual damage of the impeller and pump casing.

what is the purpose of wear rings in centrifugal pumps ?..

Answer / vasanth

Wear rings is to segregate the suction and discharge side of the pump.they save the impeller and casing from wearings so they called wear rings.
