Difference between HRG and NGR. Are they both the same thing
Answer / Jyoti Pal
HRG (Harmonics Removal Generator) and NGR (Non-linear Current Compensator) are two different types of devices used in electrical power systems, each with a specific purpose:
1. HRG: Harmonics Removal Generators are used to compensate for harmonics generated by non-linear loads in power systems. They operate based on the principle of generating currents at harmonic frequencies that are out-of-phase with the load currents, thereby reducing overall system distortion and improving power quality.
2. NGR: Non-Linear Current Compensators, on the other hand, are used to compensate for non-linear characteristics of loads by injecting a phase-shifted current into the electrical circuit. This helps maintain a more sinusoidal current waveform, thus reducing harmonic distortion and improving power factor."
Although both devices are employed in power quality improvement, their specific functionality and design differ significantly. HRG focuses on eliminating harmonics while NGR addresses the non-linear characteristics of loads directly.
