lookup table is nothing but the table which will have two coulmns, first one will've diff values (eg. Mumbai, Bombay, Bom, Mum) sec one will've single value (like Mumbai).
Your etl mapping would be... if any values like Mum, Bom, Mumbai, Bombay then you need to populate as Mumbai.

to filter the data in Target table.
there are 2 types of lookup are there
1.connected Lookup
2.Un Connected Lookup
