The relationship between the quantity of gas (refrigerant) and the capacity of an air conditioner (AC) machine in tonnage is that the quantity of refrigerant is directly proportional to the capacity of the AC machine. The capacity of an AC machine is measured in tonnes, where 1 tonne of an AC machine can cool down 12,000 BTUs per hour (British Thermal Units). The more refrigerant a machine has, the larger its cooling capacity.
