It is better to have one global catalog server on each site
of AD to have fast access of the query which is asked by
the client.

GC has complete information of its own domain and partial

installation, it contain complete information of own domain
and partial information of other domain. yes ofcourse, if
you have mutisite enviourment and user located in differnet

catalog server, you can increase the login time and also
save the bandwidth, but it create the load on the

Exchange server use global Catalog to lookup AD objects.
Becsae GC contain full index of AD objects.

Requirement of GC is depend on the mailbox load and need to
follow the exact ratio recomended by microsoft.
In exchange 2010. 4 MB Server : 1 GC ratio
8 MS server : 2 GC (only one GC require
if you have 64bit GC server).
