can any tell me why slope 40% and 80% is calculated in
differential protection?

can any tell me why slope 40% and 80% is calculated in differential protection?..

Answer / Manish Ratan

In differential protection, the 40% and 80% slopes are used to compare currents on both sides of a circuit breaker. The 40% slope compares the largest positive deviation from the normal current flowing in either direction, while the 80% slope compares the largest negative deviation. These values are used to determine whether an unbalanced current is due to a fault or not.
