Piston ring in piston is used for avoid leakage of
combustion gases into th crankcase in engine.... it also
used for lubricating purpose for reducin th rough or tight
relative movement between th cylinder and piston...

Piston ring is provided with piston so that during movement
of piston there should not be any leakage of compressed air
in cylinder and make motion of piston uniform.If there is
leakage in the cylinder desired stroke length will not be
achieved.
