How do ESTs work?..

Answer / Nitin Kumar Tyagi

Expressed sequence tags (ESTs) are short sequences of DNA that represent the expressed portion of a gene. They are obtained by reverse-transcribing mRNA from various tissues or cell lines and sequencing the resulting cDNA fragments. ESTs provide information about the structure, expression level, and alternative splicing patterns of genes.
