1 horse power=720 watt=720j/s. Once upon a time horse is
used as symbol of power(for loading,battle etc).Heavy work
was done by horse.This is a historical background.But in
engineering explanation is that if a horse do 720 Joule work
in a unit time than it is called one horse power.Another
example is that capacitor unit is Farad which was named of
Scientist Michel Farade,Force unit is Newton(Scientist name).
