A sale is the pinnacle activity involved in the selling products or services in return for money or other compensation. It is an act of completion of a commercial activity.
Marketing improves the selling environment and plays a very important role in sales. If the marketing department generates a list of potential customers, that can benefit sales. A marketing department in an organization has the goal increasing the number of interactions between potential customers and the organization.

Marketing is to promote the concept or USP of the product to the target customer or Market where as Selling is the transfer of goods from one person to another against monetary gains or barter system along with the rights of the product.
